Welwyn Garden City Photographic Club has approximately seventy members and meets at the Terrace Suite in the Campus West complex. We meet every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. from September until the end of May. We are a mixed club with a varied age range, and diverse abilities, interests and levels of photography experience. We are all photographic enthusiasts who like to listen, exchange and learn more about photography and how we can improve our photographs.

The programme we have is designed to give members variety each week in the topics covered and the medium used. For example we have a Club Competition each month giving members the opportunity to submit their work to be assessed by a recognised judge. This can be in colour or monochrome prints, processed traditionally or digitally, or in slides. We also have annual competitions run in a similar way. Cups are given each year to successful authors. We also participate in competitions against other local photographic clubs.

Visiting speakers give us lectures with their slides or prints on a variety of topics ranging from Travelogues of places around the UK and the World, Natural History, Landscapes, Wildlife, Digital, Composition, Portraits etc. Our own members also present a selection of their work with the opportunity to interact and ask questions. Workshops and club outings are other opportunities to practice and exchange on our skills. We like to help each other with questions and problems, so being a mutual resource which to tap into to improve the way we take our pictures. Two exhibitions held in Welwyn Garden City at the beginning of the new season allow us to present our work to the public. We hold a one day exhibition on the first Saturday in September in the Howard Centre. The other exhibition is held at the Maynard Gallery. The pictures are on show for several days.

We belong to the East Anglian Federation of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain who also offer day or evening lectures that we try to attend. We submit work into their annual competitions and exhibitions and have had some recent successes here.

Annual subscriptions are currently £37 with a small contribution for tea or coffee and a biscuit.
